TAPPI T574 – Wax in pulp, paper and paperboard
1. Scope
1.1 This test method measures the amount of petroleum wax in paper, paperboard, and pulp samples under specified conditions of solvent and extraction time.
1.2 Some ingredients in curtain-coated wax may not be dissolved in the specified solvent (methyl ethyl ketone) and some wood extractives may be dissolved in the solvent. This method does not differentiate between petroleum wax and wood extractives and does not intend to measure the overall wax level if the wax contains substance other than petroleum wax.
1.3 This test method does not purport to address all the safety problems, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this test method to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.
1.4 The test results obtained with this method may differ from that with ASTM D 590 due to the difference in the solvent and extraction time.
