NZS 1951 – Specification for semi-enclosed electric fuses, ratings up to 200 amperes and 250 volts to earth
Describes the widely used “rewireable” fuse suitable for use on circuits where prospective short-circuit currents have only moderate severity (that is, not requiring the high breaking capacity of a cartridge fuse such as in NZS 6208). Six categories of duty are provided, for both alternating current and direct current selected from the range 1 000 A to 12 000 A. Requirements are set to ensure personal safety and to prevent fire. Test methods and criteria include a photographic assessment of glowing particle emission, and visual assessment for any damage to components. Extensive appendices include notes on measurements, calculations, use of oscillograms, and selection of fuses according to power supply capacity, length of cable and other factors.Reprinted to append Amendments 1 & 2.
